The Exotic Marine Life Haven (Part 3)

The Scuba Seraya area also features these rich black slopes with similar terrain and a small house reef alive with eels, small rays and healthy corals. Light currents keep the nutrients flowing along the slopes and the fish life prolific. So easy walk-ins are the norm. Patrick has also built an undersea electrolysis dome right in front of the dive shop that is establishing coral growth and habitat for fish life.
Schwatrz also likes to visit the deeper and less frequented sites near his resort like Batu Kelebit. Big barrel and tube sponges grow here. The reef cascades into the depths and it is not unusual to see a big shark, the odd ocean molamola (or sunfish) or even a whale shark in this rich fall.
Batu Biti is a flow of lava rocks that tumbles down the slope and forms a nice point. Barracuda school in the outer currents and groupers patrol the cracks and crevices. Big barrel sponges with the hairy and hot pink sponge crabs are found all up and down the slope. It is great place to spend long dives in the rocks and black sand looking for rare and unusual nudibranchs. And it is just two minutes from the resort. One can end the end with a nice massage as the day cools down.
Or hold off having that sundowner and what the night brings. This is when many of the odd critters come out. Mimic octopus are reported here. Also, harlequinn shrimp. Squid come in to see what is happening near a diving light. And small scorpionfish scout for food.
This is also a time for shells to roam and small cone shells and helmet shells move through the sandy bottom. With the sun rising behind Lombok’s Mount Rinjani and backlit fishing junkungs dotting the horizon every morning, the day always starts in a spectacular way in Tulamben. And when it tucks behind Mt. Agung’s western slopes, a day of great diving is usually what has taken place. This is one of Bali’s special places and is sure to please.

Travel Tips from World Nomads
Here are a few things to consider when choosing your insurance to make sure that you will be covered on your adventure:
- Cancellation: It’s no fun if you fall ill before you leave and can not go on your trip. To claim though, you have to buy your insurance policy when you buy your trip. Not all insurance policies cover cancellation, so please read the policy wording relevant to you carefully
- Lost or Stolen Gear: most travel insurance policies have a per-item value limit – make sure its high enough to cover your gear or choose a policy that allows you to increase the limit.
- Medical expenses over and above evacuation: check that your cover includes emergency treatment while away and transport to bring you home – remembering that insurance providers will usually insist on getting you home as soon as you are fit enough to travel.
- Adventurous Activities: look carefully at what your policy covers – you may find that you are not covered to do all of the adventurous activities that you are planning while you’re away.
- Personal Liability: Accidents happen. If it’s found to be your fault and someone decides to sue you, you want to be covered.
